The One by the Water

This happened to me when I was 12. My parents have just gotten divorced,and I was sent to live with my dad in Greece for one year.That was the agreement they have reached. It was supposed to help me decide with which parent I wanted to live with permanentley. Anyways my dad got this great job offer and we had to pack and move quick.He found this great little house near the sea shore for an amazing price."This was going to be an awsome summer" I thought. All I had to do is just walk down these steps that lead from the house and I would be on the beach!

So after we finaly settled in, I started to make plans for tomorrow morning. I was going to get up realy early before other people started coming down to the beach, pick up a towel and go for an early swim. So I set my alarm clock to wake me up at 6am. and prepared my bathing suit and some towels on the chair next to my bed side. It was still sorta dark outside when I got out and locked the door. My dad was already gone for work at that time. I got a hold of the rail and stated slowly started walking down the stairs.It was then that I noticed somebodey sitting down there at the beach with their back turned towards me. From the back it looked like a young long haired brunette. I didn't think much of it I came down put my stuff maybe a meter away from her and without taking second looks at her, I jumped in the water and started swimming along the shore.

As I swam I looked back and glanced at her. Now she was standing and I could finally see her front.My heart sped up and I felt that desperate sinking feeling as I realized that she didn't really have a face she was a skeleton with empty eye sockets, yet it seemed like she was looking at me.I tryed to use my rational thinking since I never beleived in this kind of stuff or that it was possible.I always said that I'd only beleive it if I saw it. Well now I've sadly seen it and I was in sort of a shock. But it wasn't over yet.She didn't just disappear as I was hoping her to she started walking towards me and into the water.

That's when I went into full speed and started padling with my arms and legs accross the water and along the shore.There was a small boat ahead of me and I swam toward it in a hope that it'll pick me up so I could just get out of the water and away from the shore. When I reached it, and old fisherman that was on it gave me a hand and pulled me out. He started laughing at my fright. He then asked me "What's wrong did you run into our old Pelagia?" I looked at him and asked "What?" "Oh I guess nobodey told you about her before. She used to be the old Peli's daughter and she drowned herself right there on that beach. She's the one that wanted attention from this young general's son but when he married to another women, she wanted him to feel sorry for her.But the funny thing was.....He didn' even know her or know who she was. Yea she likes to do that. she'll sit there on the beach, waiting for someone to come down to her and ask her if she's okay and feel sorry for her. Yup she does that often,just come out of the water like that" I kinda lost the trail of what he was saying after that because I couldn't understand the rest but her story was pretty clear. Now I knew why my father got that house for so cheap.

After that experience I never saw her again or went swimming on that beach, and I always kept my windows latched. Thanx for reading my experience. You don't have to beleive it but if you ever experience something like this you'll know for sure that I wasn't lying.
