What Did I See

A couple of nights ago I awoke suddenly from a happy dream where I was with an old friend laughing and chatting. I rolled over to take a look at the time on the illuminated clock on the bedside table next to my husband. However, I didn't see the time. Instead, above the clock, in the corner of the room a couple of feet from the bed, I saw a figure. To start, I honestly thought I was imaging it - that it was some sort of play of light in the darkness. I thought maybe I was dreaming but I knew I was awake.

The figure was very clear - a dark bronzey, brown colour blending into the darkness but with all its features defined by a soft deep gold glowing light. I could not see (or did not notice) the bottom of the figure, just the upper torso and head. The figure looked like a man - a extremely beautiful man. He appeared unclothed and each of the muscles on his torso was defined by the glowing light. His face was unfamiliar. He was smiling - but more of an inner smile as he did not show any teeth and there was no obvious 'grin' - sort of a 'feeling of smiling'. He had very thick wavey golden hair.

I honestly thought I was imagining this. I blinked a few times and the 'vision' did not disappear so thought it must be some sort of wierd 'after-image' from my dream although I not only knew this was not possible, but I also vividly recalled the dream I had been having which was in no way related. I turned over in bed.

However, a few seconds later I turned back and could not believe it but the figure was still there. I started to feel frightened. I was lying on top of the bed under a sheet as it was a hot summer night here. My husband was under the duvet and I wanted to get in beside him but was too afraid to move. Thoughts started rushing through my head. Although I have never believed in the paranormal, I started to think that maybe my Dad (aged 83) had died and was visiting me in a transformed state; or maybe it was a premonition of danger for my son who was driving of town the next day. I wanted to wake my husband but was too afraid to move or make a sound. I don't know why I was afraid because the figure was not at all frightening other than the fact that I could not explain it.

I shut my eyes again and turned my head away. After a few more seconds I had to look again. The figure was still there. It had not moved at all - a bit like some gorgeous glowing statue. I was really frightened. This time, however, as I watched, the figure faded away.

I stayed awake for maybe ten or fifteen minutes thinking about what the figure could have been and looking back to see if it had returned. It did not. I then drifted off to sleep.

Next day, the 'vision' was very much in my mind but now just puzzled me rather than frightened me. The more I thought about it, the less threatening it seemed - in fact to describe it to someone the best word would be an 'angel' although it did not have any wings! I have no idea what exactly I saw or why I saw it. As the days go past I wonder if I may have imagined it but I did tell my family about it the next day and very, very oddly, they seemed to believe me.

I am quite bewildered by what I beleive I saw. I am a very sceptical middle aged woman but this has really stumped me.
