Military School Haunt
From: Katie (rtsgirl2002@yahoo.com) Story type: Ghost Location: my high school Source: Form Submission
I had never been interested in the paranormal unitl about 6 years
ago when I started to attend a local Military Academy. My first day
there (touring the place), I began to have odd feelings while walking
in some of the buildings. Kinda like I was being carefully watched and
whatever it was made me so uncomfortable that when I sat down to talk
to my family about attending the academy, I told them I didn't want to
live there but just to attend classes as a day student. They, of
course, told me that there were "hundreds of other students there and
they seemed to be fine".
So to make a long story short, I moved in in December 2002, second
semester. While living there, I witnessed too many happenings to write
down all of them. Our school was dated back to the late 1800's and was
formerly used as a safehouse for slaves. All buildings on the property
were the origional buildings but had been remodeled on the insides to
make accomodations for dormitories. My dorm was the 2ond oldest on the
property. At lights out (bedtime, 10pm) if you dared leave the confines
of your selected room, it was certain that something was going to
happen to scare you back. We constantly heard footsteps, but these
footsteps were heavy and sounded like our old dress shoes. Everytime we
would hear this, we would open our doors to find no one walking down
the hall. Doors opened and shut all night some nights due to the
curious looking up and down the halls. Upon leaving your room, you
would be followed by these sounds. Come to find out, our dorm used to
be a male dorm and they used to have a fire guard patrol the hallways
at night making sure everything was in order and the elected guard
would have to be in full parade uniform...wearing dress shoes. We also
constantly battled with a prankster spirit. This one would play tricks
on us. It would unplug the alarm clocks in the rooms of our higher
ranking officers (random rooms) so they would be late for morning
formations. People who chose to shower earliest in the mornings would
find themselves in the dark with freezing cold water coming from the
shower, both happening at the same time. Whispering in ears as you
walked through the halls, furniture moving overhead when no one else
was in the dorm and finding nothing out of place upon inspection.
Sheets missing off of beds late in the day only to find them later that
evening replaced but made back up on the beds differently than taught.
The spookiest thing that happened to me was one morning while
getting dressed...late for breakfast formation...I was drying my hair
in the bathroom. I heard the door open and close and footsteps and then
the footsteps stopped behind me. I was leaning forward with my head
down as I always do to dry my long hair and a friend of mine, Liz,
asked me jokingly why I was late. I laughed and told her that my alarm
"quit working". She laughed back almost hysterically and began telling
me what she had for breakfast, eggs, pancakes and sausage links with
ranch dressing. I used to room with her and found this strange that she
had eaten ranch dressing considering she hated it (I loved it and ate
it on everything) and looked up to question her. When I did, I found I
was alone, not only in the bathrooms, but in the dorm. I ran out of the
dorm, more scared than ever and ran to the chow hall across the
road, still with a half wet head, to find Liz and ask her if she had
been in the dorms. She was sitting there eating eggs, pancakes and
sausage links with ranch dressing! Upon questioning her, she said she
had not been back to the dorms that day. We later talked and I told her
about what had happened to me that morning and I asked her why she had
been eating ranch dressing with her sausage and she told me that she
did not know why and although it was nasty to her, she kept eating it
until it was all gone. Others in my dorm also had experiences talking
with this disappearing "friend".
It is a creepy place to visit and a creepier place to live. All and
all, I am a believer in spirts now. I don't believe in "ghosts" per
say, but restless spirits, good and evil ones. All my experiences have
so far proved harmless. Just curious spirits passing time perhaps. I
suggest anyone who has never experienced paranormal happenings to visit
this location. Not only will it make you belive, it will help you to
understand and not be afraid.
