Susan Holmes

There are several ghosts on campus at Southern Oregon University.
One of the most famous haunts the basement of the Susan Holmes
dormitory. The basement had been dug out, the cement poured and rebar
stuck out like the talons of an old witch. The fall night was cool and
rain was beginning to fall. A young boy was on his way home up the
hill. He cut through the construction site. The clouds above were
ripped open and rain poured down. He pulled his light jacket up over
his head, the rain blurring his vision. The ground became soggy under
his feet. The dirt around the building under construction turned to
mud. The little boy hurried his steps toward home. As he approached the
edge of the new building he could not resist a look down into the
tangle of metal that was to form the new structure. As he peered over
the ledge he lost his footing in the slick mud. He disappeared into the
depths of the newly dug basement and was impaled on the rebar. Now, on
rainy nights those living in the basement of Susan Holmes may hear a
knock on the door. They open the door to find a small boy soaking wet.
He asks for a towel or a blanket. When the students turn from the door
to search for something to wrap the boy in he disappears.
