Another Ghost?
From: Story type: Ghost Location: my new home Source: Form Submission
My husband RC, and I bought our house six years ago and have had strange things happen every since, nothing scary, just strange. The land was bought and cleared for the lumber, the owner then built our house and rented it and the land out for two years before we bought it.
The man that built our house is a very crafty old farmer, lol, anything
to save a buck we have since found out. Instead of building our house
all new, he bought an old, small, country church, moved it in,
renovated it, and added on to it... turning it into our home. The fact
that part of it IS an old church may explain some of what I will
describe... I just thought I'd tell my tale and let you decide for
yourself... maybe some of it has happened to you.
1. Two weeks after we moved in my five year old son looked in the
kitchen (in the new part of our house) and asked "who is that man in
our kitchen"? My husband and I looked but neither of us saw anything,
"Mike" asked again, "who is that black man in our kitchen"? Then doing
as a five year old will do, he turned his attention back to the TV. He
still (six years later) says he definately saw a man standing in our
kitchen but can't describe him any better than, "he was just all
black", like a shadow I'm thinking.
2. A handprint showed up on the bathroom mirror after I took a
shower one day. I had just done the housework before I got in the
shower and had cleaned that mirror with Windex. I still don't like
taking a shower anymore when I'm the only one home.
3. My husband and I heard whispering IN OUR BEDROOM (a part of the
old church) one night. It was pitch black (we're out in the country)
and I thought our son had snuck into our room and was whispering to RC
on his side of the bed. He laughed and I asked him what was so funny,
he wanted to know what me and "Mike" were whispering about on MY side
of the bed! We then heard swishing noises, like the wind had gotten up
outside, but it was in our room. I got a little upset then thinking "my
boys" were playing a trick on me, demanding to know what they were
talking and laughing about, and what were they doing to make that
noise? The noises were getting louder so I finally switched on the
bedside lamp... the noises stopped immediately, and "Mike" was NOT in
our room. I think my hubby became a semi-believer at that point.
4. I have a barnwood shelf above the entryway into the kitchen and
have some antiques sitting up on it. I keep an old pair of binoculars
and the case that they came in on that shelf. One day I came home from
picking up my son from school and the binoculars and the case were
sitting up straight on the floor in front of the stove, 18 ft. away, I
measured it.
5. My son and I smell cigarette smoke often, even though no one,
including the woman that rented the house before we bought it, ever
smoked in it. I thought it was just me smelling it and never said
anything to anyone about it, so when my son made the comment out of the
blue that he was smelling it, it was kinda surprising.
6. My son's electronic games (the ones that use batteries and make
noise) start up when no one's in the room. TV's and lights switch off
and on by themselves, not often, but often enough. The bathroom light
was switched off on my husband while he was in the shower a couple of
weeks ago, for just a couple or three seconds, he knew I was in the
kitchen cooking, but I think it furthered his belief that there is
something strange about our house, lol!
7. Our dog Jackson, when he was a puppy, would not go into the back
part of our house (the old church part) alone, and only followed us
there very reluctantly and with the promise of 'yummies' when he got to
where we wanted him to go. He seems to have gotten used to whatever is
there and will play all over the house now, but still prefers to be in
a room with a human in it. Every now and then he'll growl at thin air,
and sometimes he can get really vocal to whatever it is that he thinks
he sees. What I would give to have him tell me about it!
8. Our ceiling fans switched off the other night while we were all
in the living room watching TV. Jackson started barking like crazy up
at them. The fans being turned on and off by us doesn't bother him, but
he went a little nutty when they turned off by themselves.
9. RC works nights and doesn't get home until 1 am or so, usually
crawls in bed around 1:30 or 2, but it isn't always easy for him to
fall right asleep. Just a few nights ago he was laying in bed wide
awake, I was already asleep, when he hollered "Donna, someone's in the
house", "someone's running through the house"!!! I was deep asleep and
it never really registered that someone had broke in. He jumped out of
bed, turned on the overhead light, grabbed his deer rifle and headed
out of the bedroom. He turned on EVERY SINGLE light in the house,
checked every closet, every window and every door, and found nothing.
By now I was wide wake and realized what had happened... we were
hearing things again, lol!
There are other little things that have happened over the years,
just strange little things... glimpses of movement out of the corner of
my eye, things disappearing or not being where I remembered putting
them, the feeling of being watched... that sort of thing. Nothing that
has happened here has ever scared me exactly (the handprint unnerved me
a little, because I was home alone and we were still fairly new here),
but I have never been out-and-out scared here. It can all be explained
though, can't it???
