I was born and raised in Colchester, Il. until recently when I moved to Texas. About a year before I left Illinois however, I went to visit a friend of mine who lived in Tennessee, IL. She and her family lived in an old farmhouse Northwest of town.

While we were in her living room, talking and watching t.v., I happened to look out the window which was directly in front of me where I sat on the couch. I saw an elderly-looking man in overalls, white t-shirt and a red baseball-style cap. I told my friend that someone was there at the house. I went over to the window and saw no one in the surrounding yard. She went outside on her porch and came back in to tell me that there was no one there. The old man had simply vanished.

When I described him to her, she smiled, and told me that I had seen the original owner of the house, an elderly man named Elmer. She said that he made his presence known quite often, mainly by appearing briefly, or by rattling the dishes in the sink and in the cupboards. She said that when this happened, she would yell, "Elmer, it's ok, I'll handle the dishes." The noise would then stop.
