this didn't happen to me, but to my little cousin and aunt. my family is native american, so we believe in spirits. my papaw died in 2000, he was cremated so his ashes could be spread on the banks of the Pablo River in Montana, where he's from and where our family originated. he died around valentine's day, and my aunt was the one going to take his ashes to montana, but she couldn't go until summer. for the time being, she kept his ashes in a box and put them on top of the TV. my cousin was about 3 years old, and would watch cartoons all the time. one day he saw a picture of our grandparnts and said that the man was the guy who watched cartoons with him everyday. he had never met papaw so my aunt was quite surprised. plus my papaw was known as an aggitator, so he would aggitate everyone, in life and in death. my aunt said that they would be sitting there in the living room and all of a sudden the lights would go on and off, the ceiking fan would turn on and off, keys and remotes and anthing else would disappear or be moved. my aunt would say " ok dad, that's enough." and everything would stop. i personally have had only one ghosty encounter, but nothing like that.
