Dead Voice, My Name

This past year my great-grandmother died. Old age had finally taken her, but it had not been an easy passing. She was often plagued towards the end of her life with delusions and hallucinations. Now that I've lived down here, I believe that her being close to dying caused her to be able to see spirits.

Family members would see her talking to people who weren't there, and once when my uncle asked her who she was talking to, she said "Them..those children." He didn't see anyone, but he humored her because she was ill. A few nights later when he was trying to sleep, he heard the basement door open up, as if someone were coming into the basement. ( She lived in a renovated apartment in the basement of my grandmother's home.) When he went out to check, he didn't see the door moving at all and it was closed. When he turned away to walk back to the living room, suddenly from behind him there was a loud 'SLAM!' as the door seemed to slam shut! He admitted that without looking behind him, he ran into the next room and climbed onto the couch.

After my great-grandmother died, I moved into the apartment where she had lived. After being down here for three days, I noticed that our cats acted weird sometimes, as if they were staring at something I could not see. I felt strange as well, as though someone were staring at me. The T.V would also go off when we were trying to watch it or switch channels.

One morning I was woken up out of bed because I heard my great-grandmother's voice talking to me. All I heard was her call my name, very cheerfully. Oddly, her voice sounded young and not old-lady-like as I remembered, but I could still tell it was her. I wasn't dreaming and I wasn't hallucinating - I remember being really wide awake, and seconds after I sat up and looked around, I heard her voice again, call out my name. I was alone in the house at the time, so it couldn't have been someone else. I have not heard it again, but I have seen many other strange things in this basement, the last of which was the basement door opening and closing itself.
