The Ghosts That Live in My Auntie's Tavern
From: ben (winnieblues25@hotmail.com) Story type: Ghost Location: my aunties bar/pub/tavern Source: Form Submission
my aunt owns a bar in a working class suburb of auckland, new zealand called the phoenix tavern. its about 30 years old and has been a mini mart, a factory discount store and in the last 20 years it has been converted into a bar. the last 3 owners have used it as a bar including my aunt whom runs it now.
im not the kind of person to believe in the supernatural, but apparently the tavern is haunted by not one spirit but at least three. the last ghostly encounter occured last night, and my aunt is still upset over it.
she had just finished arguing with her husband and had gone to the accomadation quarters located in the car park of the tavern to calm down. she heard her dogs barking furiously and at first she thought it was one of her kids but when she raised the curtain to inspect, it was the apparition of an old man smiling at her. she could see right thru him and ran into the pub screaming.
the ghost of the old man has been seen fairly regularly around the pub by the dj and the cleaners. he's pretty harmless, and is supposedly the spirit of a patron who died of a stroke on the premises 10 years ago.
however there are 2 other spirits who only seem to be seen at certain times of the year. one is of a young man of moari appearance, whom wanders the pub late at night wanting to go home. the doors rattle and the lights flicker on and off when he is around. the dj system and the disco lights go on and off even though they arnt connected into power sockets.
the other ghost is that of a young woman who was killed by a drunk motorist outside the pub premises. she never actually comes into the pub, but late at night she is seen leaving the tavern car park only to dissapear once she reaches the road opposite the pub. the locals have told us that when she was living she used to drink at the pub on a regular basis and had been here the night she died.
its almost 5am and as i write this im in the office of the pub. i have yet to see these apparitions, but who knows....tonight could be the night.
