Elemental fun

I'll start off by saying I am a paranormal investigator, and have had experiences in the past, but not like this. This is a good warning of what it is possible to experience if you seek out paranormal events.
I have lived in my current house for the last 4 years with no paranormal activity at all, nor at any time was there even the slightest feeling of any thing 'amiss'. I had just completed an investigation at a purported 'haunted' house, with no evidence of activity at all. I got home around 5 a.m. and went to bed with no issue.
The next night there was nothing unusual, except for a 'stuffed-up' feeling on the house...almost as if someone stuffed invisible cotton into the whole house. I chalked it up to sleep deprivation and went about my normal routine. That night at about 4 a.m., I awoke to my bed trembling evenly for about 10-15 seconds, and my cat was acting strangely, staring at the floor with his eyes dilated fully. Again, the furthest thought from my mind is anything to do with paranormal activity, so I thought 'must be a small earthquake' and went to sleep. It couldn't have been a truck as there was no appreciable noise, and where I live it's completely quiet.
The next day I checked...no earthquakes reported at the USGS site...even local minor ones. Weird.
I got home after work that day and went into the kitchen to start making dinner. All of a sudden my front door slammed shut with enough force to shake the walls. My cat came running into the kitchen with his tail fat and his eyes black, panting heavily and looking all around. I thought someone was in the house, I grabbed a knife and jogged to the front door. There was no one there, nor outside (they couldn't have gotten away in time).
Now at this point I was full of adrenaline, because I know that the door was shut. I can't leave the door open, my cat would run out (he always tries when I get home). It's a solid oak door as well, it requires a lot of force to open and close...if it closed due to wind it would never close with the force it did. Basically it scared the $^%* out of me. I went around the house and forcefully told the air that if there was something in the house with me that it needed to leave, it was not welcome and was invading my space. In retrospect, this was a stupid thing for me to do. I have committed large chunks of my time and money into documenting paranormal research, and here I have it in my house and I am telling it to go away. Hindsight is 20/20.
Later that night two light bulbs blew out one right after another in the same room, which made me a little jumpy. That night there was light tapping on the walls...but that could have been anything... I sat up and said as forcefully as I could, 'You have to leave now. You are not welcome here. You need to go to where you belong, this is my space.'
I haven't had any experiences since. The house feels normal again. After doing some research, I've found that it is not uncommon for paranormal investigators to have a 'tag-along'...an elemental (non human, natural entity) that for some reason will attach itself to someone and go home with them. They will usually leave within a week on their own, or sooner if confronted. The worst they do apparently is knock small things down, move things around and cause minor disturbances (gremlins, basically)...but they can cause you a fright.
I am a believer in this phenomena now, having had the experience first-hand. So the next time you are thinking about provoking something in an active location, remember that you might bring home an uninvited guest to answer that challenge!
