when i was a young boy i lived on the camp hill estate, nuneaton warickshire. the local park was called stubsies all the local kids would go there to play as it had 2large slides, one straight, one wrigley, wich are sadly gone now. a padling pool and by it the fishing pool called after the owners stubbs. i remember collecting water snails as a boy from there and not feeling scared or threatenened.
then the stories started a bout the ghost of Mrs Stubbs, walking across the pool at night, many claimed to have seen her,i was a lad of about 4 and i remember all what was said by the grown ups and it chilled me to the bones. one night in the year of 1976 a local man was coming home from a night of drinking and a light mist was on the pool it was about 11 30 pm and this poor man claims he saw a woman walking to wards him across stubbs pool, he got home and nancy calla, his mother who lived a few doors from me on sycamore rd told my parents, "it looks like you,ve seen a ghost "and her son told that tale.
the local vicar who as i know still lives told our school that he was walking his dog through the park and saw Mrs Stubbs on top of the wrigly slide just looking at him then gone.then the deaths started many local boys drowned one summer and winter in that pool and we all started to take notice, the last victim i remember most i will not say his name as it may upset his family.this lad was playing football in the park. it rolled on to the icy stubbs pool,he went to retrieve it and his mates account is wierd. he claims two hands pulled him down into the pool and he was gone. about 6 or 7 deaths in that pool including my dads uncle. he lived over the road from me. when i was a bout five he just got up one morning and walked in to stubbs pool.
since that time stubbs pool as been tranquil. the last news recently was of local trouble makers killing swans on there. but mrs stubbs is in all of our memories, and always will be. if you type stubbs pool on u tube you will see it..
