Well I guess you could say that it happened in late November probally around 1977, both of my grandparents had just past away, my grandmother a year and half earlier and my step grandfather earlier that month.
The Holidays were right around the corner and need less to say it didn't seem like it at all, however we managed through them. They finally came and went and around January of 78 my mom and other family members were at my grandparents' house settling things such as getting the house ready to be sold. This is when most of the activity would start.
I would often go with my mom and help with some of the chores, to kill two birds with one stone sort of speak, she would bring along our laundry and do that as we clean and did some maintenance that needed done. The one thing that I can remember in detail is my brothers and I were playing outside in the yard, it had been unseasonable warm and there was mud in the yard and as kids will be kids we got kinda dirty to say the least so my mom made us take turns taking a bath, my brothers first then me of course. For some reason or other my mom,dad and her younger brother had to go somewhere, just right down the road so they had me stay there to finish my bath, I was probally eight years old at that time and in those days you didn't worry to much about leaving you children alone especially in a neighborhood where everybody knew everybody. but anyway I didn't mind the fact, I pretty much embrassed it. I kicked back in the tub basically taking my time and seeing how much shampoo I could put in the tub to make more bubbles. My mom yelled through the door that they were leaving and the same old "don't open the door, don't go outside until we get back." deal. Yeah, okay, sure, whatever. I knew this.
So as I'm laid back thinking I'm all that, I hear the door knob jiggle, not that this bathroom was very big but the way I was laying, the shower curtain was in my view of the door, so I yell that I am still in the tube, no response. I continue on with my bath and it happened again, again I yell I'm still taking my bath. Thinking some one wanted in the bathroom I hurry up with my bath and as I was getting out and drying off the door knob jiggles again. This time I yell at my brother, he was always playing jokes on me. I tell him to quit. As I'm getting dressed I ponder the thought that I didn't hear the front door open nor did I hear our car pull up or for that matter hear talking or footsteps, this made me get ready in record speed. I opened up the door and this is a one story house, there is a bedroom to my left, I check it, going on down the hall, I check the middle bedroom, nothing there, the bedroom at the far end of course nothing there either.
So as I'm walking through the living room to the front door I open it and right about then my parents are pulling up and of course my mom ask me why I had the door open and I told her of my little experience. As mothers would say it was my imagination so I left it at that. Earlier that day I was getting the clothes out of the dryer, my mom had always put my hair up in a ponytail. The laudry room was just off of the kitchen, my mom was on the phone leaning against the sink and my brothers were at table eating and you could see the kitchen. well as I squatted down to get the clothes out something or someone pulled my hair. I immediately turned around and told my brother to quit, my mom hears me say this and she said that he didn't do anything because he is in here eating, I told her some one just pulled my hair, of course it was my imagination, go figure.
Those are just some of the things that happended to me through out my life and often when we would stay in that house, my parents would put us in the back bedroom and we would hear things like scratching in the closet or clothes being moved around. Not to mention on rare occasions we would some times hear the adults converse about some odd things happening in that house. I only live about five minutes or so from my grandparents' house and through out the years it has been up for sale more often than not. I often wonder if there is a reason. I will add this my grandmother died in the front bedroom, I don't know if that has anything to do with it or not but stranger things has happened I guess.
