When i was sixteen i lived at my friends stable in Northern Wisconsin. I was there for the school year as "foreign Exchange Student" so to speak. The Stable i lived at consisted of 70 acres of forest, and 10 acres of clearly visible pasture. We had two seperate barns one was a straight stable and one a hayloft, stable, and grain room all in one. In the back of our regular stable theres a fair sized tack room and behind that is a private bunkhouse. Durring the time i lived there i stayed in the bunkhouse. The bunkhouse has two windows that face the back pasture overlooking a giant hill that rises up and everything on top dissapears into the trees. The bunkhouse that i stayed in had a small private porch as well on the side that i would go out and sit on in nice weather.

Our stable was home to thirteen horses at the time i lived there. We had a mostly white leopard appaloosa, a palamino, a black grade horse, three brown arabs, a white egyptian arabian, a chestnut arab, and the rest of our thirteen were all light to dark brown quarter horses.

One of my jobs while i lived there was to go out in the early morning and hay our two front pasture and turn out all the horses. I was usually up before the sun rose over the horizon so it was usually still fairly dark by the time i got out and got started.

One morning in the early fall i was out haying the back pasture before i did the morning turn out and noticed a white horse standing at the top of the hill it looked to be a well cared for white grade mare. I thought maybe she had gotten through one of our fence lines from one of the neighboring stables durring the night. My first instinct was to go to the barn and fetch a lead rope and halter to catch her with. If she had belonged to someone, i wasn't about to risk her getting injured by one of the members of our own herds had i let them out first. I grabbed the a halter and lead rope and started walking out into the back pasture. When she saw me coming she turned and dissapeared over the top of the hill towards the trees. When i reached the top she had vanished. I ran back to the house to tell my freinds husband and from there the three of us set out to find this mystery horse. we searched all the 70 acres of the property only to come up with nothing.

On the way back my friend and i decided to stop at a beautifull rock waterfall that we had stumbled apon that is connected to a part of the creek that runs through the property. At the top of the waterfall we found a well preserved bleached horse skull. Now the property that my friend lives on had never been lived on prior to herself. Her and her husband had the house and barns built and had cleared the pastures themselves so they know for a fact that there had been no other horses living there prior to their herds and the only horse to die on the property that they know of had been sharons first Pony twilight who had been buried on the totally opposite side of the property from the falls. We decided to bring the skull we had found back to the house and put it up on a shelf in the living room. That same day we called every stable within 50 miles to see if someone was missing a white mare but yet again came up with nothing.

two days later i walked out of my bunkhouse to start my chores once more. It was a chilly, foggy october morning. I was walking through the stable and had to stop, i had caught movement through the corner of my eye. Standing at the bottom of the hill next to our stable in our river bottom pasture (which leads to all the horse trails through our other 70 acres) was the white mare! she was standing at the bottom staring up at me with what seemed to be a smile on her lips. I tore through the gate and started walking towards her, softly telling her what a good girl she was for waiting there so paitiently for me. I was no more than 5 feet from her when she turned tail and took off down the trail towards the deeper part of the woods spraying water everywhere as she thundered through a shallow part of the creek. She stopped once to turn and look at me before turning a bend in the trail and dissapearing. I never saw her again after that and neither did my friend.

She was the most solid looking spirit anyone would have seen in their life. The reason i say she was a spirit is because spirits don't travel far from where they have a tie to something. As far and im concerned she lives in every tree, rock and peice of grass out there watching over our herds keeping them safe. I think she was just waiting for someone to find her. We beleive its her skull that still sits on my friends shelf in her living room still to this day, im 25 now so it seem like ages ago since i was there, but i can still remeber seeing that mare as if it was yesterday.
