In 1973 I was in the wrong place at the wrong time. I was set up and shot in the chest by a so called friend. It was in the Projects in the city of San Francisco. I was a White person in a predominantly black area and was left in a hall way; got nervous enter the outside elevator and went down stairs. As I began to exit the cage, I notice the outer light was out. Upon exiting I heard "Redd; give us everything you have," being recently released from the Army; I said kiss off and bang I was shot through the right lung. I ran into the parking lot and my lung collapsed. People from the building were yelling "How does It feel White Boy?" etc. My bodily fluids started releasing, I new that wasn't good. The shooters caught up with me and tore my pockets open, rings etc. Then ran away. I was trying to pull myself up along side a phone booth; for I still had one dime. But I kept sliding down to the ground; for I was covered in blood etc. It got so cold in side me that I just cried and closed my eyes. Then suddenly I was brought to by a Young Black Security Guard; crying and wiping the blood from my lips. Said he had called the police didn't think they would make it in time, ask me if there was anything or anyone I wanted contacted. In turn I said tell Nancy I'm Sorry! I then drifted into a Happy warm self inside,, no lights just quiet. Then suddlenly they were cutting me open and the pads also adrenaline being used I raised up and said oh shit. I remember my very first thought was How Dare They.
