It was Diwali night, a Hindu festival of lights tradition, and as always there was alot of excitement. I had just arrived from Australia that same week for a three week holiday and the sheer excitement of seeing my family and enjoying the festival i have to admit got to my head.

I had loaded my brothers and sister into the car to make a quick visit to my friends Sarah's place. When we got there we decided that i would stay the night but that i would return with my siblings and drive the car back with Sarah to her place.

My brother drove us home and they were let off at the front gate, so that we could drive straight back as it was after 12am and the night was particularly dark.

We drove out onto the main stretch of the highway, driving at a speed of no more then 40k/hr. The roads were empty so we were literally crawling. Some 100 meters from our front gate was a steep downhill descent, so it was soon thereafter that we began to take that particular stretch. All of a sudden, having still maintained the same speed, the front wheel of the car hit the gravel on the side of th road, i just instantly assumed that the front wheel had flown off.

Thinking that the wheel had flown off, i started steering the wheel to maintain control as the car was picking up speed. I than felt that i actually had no control anymore and it felt like the car was steering itself. A train of about five cars were climbing the hill and i remember being absolutely calm, not panicking and thinking so is this it, is this how ones last moments feels like, well it definitely doesn't feel spectacular. So i waited for my life story to flash before my eyes.

All the while, i couldn't make out anything in front of me, Sarah was screaming as we weaved our way in and out of oncoming traffic and cars that were going downhill. This lasted what felt at the time like an hour but in reality must have been mere minutes or seconds. We finally came to a complete stop in front of an old tree. We found ourselves in a deep but grassy trench like ditch on the opposite side of the road. When i finally came to, i was shaking all over but i was still eerily calm.

To this day, i know that i had an angel watching over me that night because we could have easily found ourselves in a horrific accident or worse yet at the bottom of the cliff like fall on the side of the road that i was driving on. I know that when i felt i had lost control of the car it was due to the fact that i wasn't driving anymore and the calm that i felt throughout the terrifying ordeal was due to the peace that emanated from the angel watching over me.
