It was 1982 when my father worked and lived in Sweden as a nineteen year old. On one particular Saturday night, he decided to walk to the local fair for something to do. It was getting dark so he decided to leave. On his way home, there were only two possible routes to take to get back to his apartment. One, was a main highway which was about a 3 mile walk. And the second, a secluded dirt road directly through the woods which was only about half a mile away from his place. He was pretty tired at that point and did not feel like walking 3 miles, so he chose the dirt road.

This road was virtually deserted. No side roads, no driveways, no turns, nothing. Just a directly straight dirt road. About halfway down the road, a vehicle passed him at a considerable speed. About 40 meters up ahead of him, he could see the brake lights come on. The car stopped, and 4 fairly large men stepped out and started walking towards him. Now, there were no other people around, or side roads he could to avoid these men. His only option would be to leave the road and sprint into the woods.

As the men were closing in on him even faster, now about 20 meters away, a car rolled up beside him and an older man reached over and swung open the passenger door and signaled him to enter the vehicle. He quickly jumped in and the elderly man sped off passed the 4 men. My father then tried to thank him, but the man could not speak a word of English, so he did not respond at all. About 15 minutes later, he dropped my father off safely at his apartment and did not say a word.

It still puzzles him to this day. He said that as the 4 men were walking towards him, he looked behind him and there was not a headlight in sight on the road, and not 10 seconds later, the vehicle was directly beside him. Let me remind you that the road was as straight as an arrow with no turns or curves. My dad would not be here today if his Guardian Angel had not been there to pick him up.
