Before our daughter was born, my husband came home one day with two ginger kittens and they were delightful. We named them Brownie and Goldie after the colour of the collars they wore. When they were about 18mths old, Brownie went missing. I received a call at work, a kind stranger (or Angel maybe?!)told me they had removed Brownie's collar from the corpse they found on the roadside and were thus able to pass on this sad news.

That evening, Goldie & I were in the kitchen, both looking toward the window. Goldie let out a sound I had never heard before nor after and turned his head to me with profound sadness.

Goldie remained with us for another ten years until, finally, he got sick. He spent a night at the vet's but, knowing he was dying, I brought him home.

He, painfully, made his way upstairs calling out to our daughter and, not finding her in her room, settled down in the passage to wait.

When she returned with her dad, Goldie was 'travelling', his breathing had the death rattle and he could barely move. We were having our bedroom re-modelled and were sleeping in the lounge but I remained with Goldie & our daughter in her room until the small hours. Eventually, I crept downstairs.

Some while later I awoke to music. Beautiful, indescribable music... Startled, I thought it was the radio-alarm clock above in our bedroom and I roused my husband and asked that he go check. He reported that the radio-alarm was unplugged however Goldie had passed.

The music I heard? It was the Heavenly Host greeting our much much loved pet home.
