Dark Shadow Figure

I had the same incident when I was younger about 13/14 years of age.. my best friend and I was sleeping in the spare lounge one night and then I woke up with no reason and I just felt this fear within me, my eyes were so watery of being scared and in front of the entrance was the tall dark figure man/shadow who had a cloak it was dark but you can see the darker shadow that night, it stood there and I felt a presence of dog like the size of a Great Dane type of dog next to him but I couldn't see it but I felt it.. I couldn't move nor speak. it was if I was paralysed and when i was able to move my finger it disappeared and i was able to move i was so scared. then i fell asleep when i woke up i told my best friend about this nightmare and he just started tearing saying he had the same thing and we spoke to each other and he felt everything as i did...

That wasn't the first time we felt this presence. we went on holiday, and there was a construction going on. it was getting dark but still light to walk back, so we carried walking till my friend said there some-one at the construction. of course there will be due to its being looked after.. but there wasn't any-one on site the site was abandoned do to Holiday... next moment we just both looked at each other and some how we had the same feeling of being shocked of fright.. there was that shadow again over looking a slab of concrete.. we Ran..

Then the last time was when my friend and i was walking past a church on the way to my house.. and saw a Big black dog outside the church's wall.. the same figure of the dog we felt that other night... after that we just didn't know what to do? Or what... that was 8 years ago.. now never had an experience again.. till now while typing this to all.. i still get teary eyes as it still sticks with me and now reading about others encountering this / similar thing.. just wondering what could it be or mean?
