He Said Goodbye

My grandfather was diagnosed with lymphoma in October 2008.In February 2009, at the age of 62, his wife died unexpectedly. By May 2009, the doctors told us that it was terminal and that there wasn't all that much we could do. He chose to stay in a nursing home instead of taking HOSPICE, mainly because he would miss my grandmother at the house. On June 3, 2009 my grandfather's sister Ruthie came to Chattanooga from Memphis. She had purposely not brought their mother with her, afraid that she would get upset. My grandfather died on June 5, 2009.
I remember that morning well. We got the call that he had stopped breathing and we rushed to the hospital. He was pronounced dead at 6:00 am. My great-grandmother couldn't call us from Memphis because it is long distance. She repeatedly called her daughter Ruthie. Ruthie didn't answer because she didn't want to tell her mother over the phone that my grandfather had died.
Finally Ruthie did answer her phone. My great-grandmother immediately asked her if she had seen her brother today. Ruthie thought that someone had told her that she had come to Chattanooga so she told her yes.
My great-grandmother then replied, "I did too. He came and saw me this morning. He told me that he had died, but that we shouldn't worry about him and that he and everyone else were going to be all right. He ended by saying that he had to go then, that he couldn't stay, but that he loved all of us."
My great-grandmother lives in a nusing home hours away from us. She had talked to no one that day. Her roommate admits that she was talking to someone from about 4:00-6:00 am but that she had seen no one.
Just wanted to share this story to show everyone that if you have lost someone, they are fine. And if your time comes, don't worry, just be with God.
