Growing up a sensitive strange things have happened to me a lot, but this was the defining one.
I was six, i think, and i went to my room to take a nap. I remember falling asleep and floating upward. Then i heard somone calling my spirit name. I am native american by the way. Since only my immediate family knew my name, i was curious as to who it was. i remember flying over lots of buildings and rivers and then comig to a stop in an indian village. There was an old woman waiting for me there.
She came towards me "hello my child." "Hello Grandmother." it is a custom to call the elders grandmother or grandfather. "Silly child i am your great grandmother." She took my hand and lead me to the council hut. "Come, we have many things to speak about." and we did. she was called the teacher or she who remembers. we spoke of many things and what felt like days later, we walked to the river flowing nearby. "Child it is time for you to go, but first a ceremony." We walked to the very middle of the river and the water was higher than my head but she held me up. "You will be the strength of your family and keeper of tales, protecter of the young, and speaker for Those With No Voice To Speak. Remember all that i have taught you. You are now She Who remembers." I stopped her "no thats you. i am simply the teacher."
I could tell that was the right thing to say. She kissed my forhead and let me go. I do not remember coming back to my body, but when i returned it was nighttime and my mother was calling me to dinner. I asked who my great grandmother was and she told me that she had passed away the day i was born.
i have never forgotten what i learned from her and maybe some of you have recieved an email from me if you have any type of questions i will answer them.
as always,
nissa the teacher
