In July 2000, My Step Father Richard was sick with congestive heart failure and breathing problems. He was taken to Sherman Hospital in Elgin Illinois. The heart doctor came in the hospital room in Elgin and told me, my sister Gina and my mother Hellen that Richard must have open heart surgery in 5 chambers of his heart. My step father looked afraid. He had problems breathing.
I was sad and held back tears, everything was like I was living in a fog. I did not like Sherman Hospital because it was so far from where we lived in Mchenry County. Richard my Stepfather looked scared. Richard asked,"should I have the surgery". I told him, "dad, wait and go to Chicago to have it". Gina agreed. But Lorin my boyfriend told Richard to have the surgery as soon as possible. Richard was afraid and he wanted to go home. Richard finally was allowed to go home to Woodstock and wait to have surgery in Chicago.
I went home to my husband and children in Harvard in the next town. Richard and Gina told me that The UIC hospital was gonna call when they were ready with a doctor. Two months passed I went to visit Richard it was a hot July summer and Richard struggled to breathe. I asked Gina what about the surgery she said she was waiting for the Chicago phone call. I was worried that I talked Richard out of the Sherman Hospital surgery was a big mistake. Richard did not seem like he would survive any surgery. He struggled to breathe. I brought Richard some macaroni salad on saturday and he complained of indigestion and he could hardly eat.
That week was an especialy hot week. The air conditioner was up in Richard's room and it was cranked full blast. That was the only cold air in the two story house. That week I went to work. It was about 9pm when my supervisor Bob came and told me that my father had passed. I could not stand up. I went into a fog and still do not remember how I got home that night. The next day I think I drove to talk to Gina. She told me of a horrible tale.
Gina said she went upstairs the next morning to check on Richard, it was ice cold in the room. Richard was lying stiff like he was frozen in the bed. Gina then heard millions of voices whispering in the room. Richard's body lie stiff. Gina kept hearing the whispering voices talking around Richard's body. The room became an icy cold. Gina ran out of the house screaming in terror, she grabbed my mother and drove out of the house. She called the coroner but was shaken with terror when I pulled up in the car. The coronor came and millions of flies were buzzing in the house like a supernatural force. It was frightening and me, Gina and mom left that house for good. We would go back in to retrieve our belongings but we left most of the belonging in the house. Gina and my mom quickly moved out and never returned to the house on route 14 in Woodstock, because it was haunted.
Richard was laid to peace, I felt a lot of guilt for not paying attention to the signs of heart disease or not talking him into having surgery in Elgin. I did love him and still miss him. But I cannot understand why the thousand of whispering voices were haunting the house. Why would Richard's death cause the haunting. Maybe he was mad because he did not have the heart surgery. Richard died on friday and he was supposed to have surgery that monday. Could that be the reason the house is haunted?
