February 2009, I was attending hospital for a simple day procedure operation. I felt calm and relaxed and was waiting to be called into the operating theatre. The nurse came for me and led me to the theatre and I lay down on the operating table where the nurses got me prepared for the procedure. I still felt relaxed and was thinking about getting this over with and returning home to my wife and daughters. The surgeon again explained the procedure, that he would be giving me a local anaesthetic which consisted of 3 injections of which I would feel a scratch with the first and not much thereafter.

The Anaesthetist stood by my side as the surgeon started to give me the 3 injections. True to his word I felt a scratch with the first injection, nothing as I got the second but then came the third, I can remember a sharp pain on my forehead which was so intense and sharp, then as if i was being sucked out of my body, I was drifting away from my physical self.

There I stood in this beautiful garden which was surrounded by a stone wall, behind this wall I could hear children playing and having wonderful fun. I was surrounded by what I can only explain as total tranquillity, love, peace and harmony. In this garden I could see 3 little figures playing and having fun. These little figures didn’t have any facial features but more a glow of light which was so loving. They came over to me and surrounded me and then didn’t say anything but they re-assured me that I was safe and that everything was going to be great and that it wasn’t time for me to be in this place and I was going back to my body.

Next thing I can remember was that I was standing in the operating theatre watching the doctors and nurses attending to my body. I watched as the Anaesthetist punched my chest in the region of my heart, then, all of a sudden, I was hovering above my body and I felt myself dropping back into my physical body again but I could still hear children playing and laughing. All of a sudden that laughter faded and was replaced by what I can only explain as total panic! I heard the surgeon shouting to the nurses and I had an oxygen mask over my face which I tried to remove but the nurses struggled with me to keep it on.

Next thing I remember I was in a private ward and had three nurses by my side, I asked one of the nurses what happened to the three children that were with me, I asked her why had the doctor punched me in the chest, at this point the nurses panicked and quickly left the room and returned with the Anaesthetist. He wasn’t at all happy about what I had said to the nurses and told me to relax as I had been through quite a bit. I was moved to another ward where I was told I was staying overnight.

That night just before midnight the Anaesthetist paid me a visit and asked me to go over what I had told the nurses. I recalled to him my experience. He said that he had lost me for 2 mins and 20 secs and during this time he called in the ‘crash team’ and that I hadn’t responded to the defibrillator so he started to manually massage my heart, and with no response he shocked my heart by punching it. He said I could not have seen any of this as I was still unconscious during this and he tried to explain to me that I must have heard the nurses talking about it in the recovery ward.

I was convinced and remain convinced to this day that what I experienced was real.

On reflection on what happened when I returned home, I could not get the three little figures that I met in that garden out of my head. This was really bothering me as to who these three figures were as I have three daughters of my own. I then told my wife about this experience and she looked at me in amazement and said " you do remember that I had three miscarriages." I am 100% convinced that I was met in heaven by these three little lives.
