Haunted Heredity

When I received a message requesting a small investigation in my area I jumped on the opportunity. Steven and Sandy are a mother and son that have been experiencing paranormal activities for many years now. There is a strong family history through the generations of family members seeing entities. Now Sandy is homebound because of multiple sclerosis, and Steve is getting ready to go off to college. It is imperative that she feel safe in her own home, and understand what has been happening to them.

Their biggest question was about a small animalistic entity they recently encountered. It came to Sandy while she was lying on her bed. She told me it bit her on her bottom and then jumped off of her bed and ran beneath it. She heard a thunk and believes it hit its head on something underneath. She has seen it since then as a shadowy creature scuttling around her apartment. Steve has also felt the entity. He was sitting on his couch and felt it come up and sniff his hand. He jerked his hand away and heard it moving before it ran away. It is these reports that brought them to contact our group.

How long have you lived in this house?

Sandy- Since two thousand five, in September

So, please tell me, what are some of the experiences that you two have had in this house?

Steven-Things most often happen to me, right here on this couch. I hear a very soft whisper, but very fierce. The scariest one is actually a female. Normally I get up and go to my mom’s room and we talk about it in the morning. I am always in a bad mood after these experiences. Once in particular, I was not asleep yet, and I heard a voice. It was a woman’s voice and it was very powerful. I prayed “Jesus Christ please help me” and a woman voice basically mocked me… “You f*ing believe in him.” I got up and fell down; it felt like I was on drugs. Something wasn’t right. Mom looked at me and she screamed.

Sandy- Your face was like rubber.

When was the first time it happened?

Steven- It started when I was 7.

Where did you live?

Steven- We lived in Oak Park. But it has picked up more for me here.

I have also heard grunts, seen shadow people, and the image of a woman with a terrible joker smile. I felt something sniffing me like animal, then heard its footsteps like it ran away.

Sandy-The shadow person was always in the corner. It was a little person with a black cape, it had red eyes, and it would look at me and wave. I would see this often. I think this started about two years ago. Once I was in bed and I woke up and saw this tall shadow man standing looking at me. At night I hear a woman in my ear whispering but I can’t understand what it is saying. I was three when I saw my first ghost, and have seen many since then. I have seen plasma/smoke and I saw people walking through my house. They were always touching me. Once my feet just lifted off of the ground, and I thought, wow I can float. My dad saw spirits a lot too. My fear really came when Steven was born. That’s when things started getting scary. I would hear my son’s voice saying things like “Mom you’re such a fat b*tch” and he wasn’t even in the house. I have been held down twice. Once I was on the couch and it felt like I was dying and but my spirit wasn’t leaving my body, I was trying to get up and couldn’t. I felt my neck actually getting sore with the strain. Then I looked at my blinds and they were moving when the windows and doors were all closed.

Steven- A family curse

For our first session, we started in the bedrooms. The investigators were myself, Stephanie Belson (Psychic), and Sir Wes (videographer). I was with Steven, and Stephanie was with Sandy in each of their bedrooms, while Wes was roving between the rooms.

We found that in Sandy’s room there is an extremely high EMF reading in a very localized area on her bed. There was nothing electrical on or under her bed. As I moved my tri-field meter closer to the floor, the reading rose as high as 12 mill gauss, suggesting that something under the flooring is causing the rise. Stephanie explained to Sandy that EMF fields of that magnitude can have adverse affects on people, including hallucinations, nausea, and dizziness. We suggested that she consider moving her bed to a different area of her bedroom to avoid this particular EMF spike.

We split up into our two small groups and conducted EVP sessions and took photographs while Wes roamed between the two bedrooms. No one captured anything that could be considered evidence during this time.

I asked Stephanie to describe to me her impressions on the house and its occupants: I have not yet had any overwhelming impressions in reference to the clients’ claims or experiences. Though I am curious as to what has created a situation in which a mother and her son have experienced so much visual & audio phenomenon over a lifetime.

For the next session, Stephanie and Steven went into Steven’s room, while Wes, Sandy and I remained in the living room. Both teams experienced some auditory anomalies. Stephanie and Steven recorded two possible EVPs. They will be sent to an audio specialist for analysis. In the living room we all three audibly heard a noise coming from the corner that has the fireplace. It sounded different to all three of us, as we were all three in different angles in the room. It sounded to me like a knocking noise, Wes heard it as what sounded like a cardboard box falling, and Sandy thought it was a chair scraping. It was picked up on our digital recorder, and will be sent for further analysis as well. For the third and final session Steven and Sandy went through their typical nightly routine. The activity usually increases after the two am hour when they start to go to bed.

No EVP's were captured during this session. It should be noted, however, that I had a personal experience in Sandy’s bedroom (this is the room where she has seen the “Shadow Man”). I saw what seemed to be a dark figure pass in front of me, and I got the impression that someone was very close to my face. I started taking photos instantly and got our first orbs of the evening. There were three consecutive photos that show an orb moving across the chair. No anomalies were discovered in the living room.

After discussing their situation, we decided that it would be best if Sandy and Steven stood up for themselves and reclaimed their home. Sandy laid down some ground rules for all things paranormal in their home. She was able to find her inner strength and announce her position of alpha female in the home. Some other suggestions we made for her were that she gather with friends or family in her home to strengthen the faith in her house, as her faith is very important to her. For Steven I recommended he begin keeping a journal of his experiences and nightmares, and try and find a pattern or correlation between what happens in his life with his personal paranormal experiences. They agreed they were good ideas, and confessed that they felt good about what happened tonight.

Though nothing conclusive was found here tonight, I firmly believe Sandy and Steve will be more comfortable in their home and will be able to live in a more positive light.

Paranormal investigations are not like Hollywood movies, where entities jump out of the closet and drag you into the abyss of the unknown. Even though there was nothing conclusive of paranormal evidence in this investigation, it's the feeling of reassurance that the occupants have when professionals enter their home and seek validation and assist them through a crisis that is unknown to them. Ann, Stephanie and Sir Wes did an exceptional job with this investigation and I am proud to have them on my team. Thank you team members!
