I used to work overnights at a large retailer about five years ago. When you work overnights, you meet a lot of shady people. I was a good kid. At the time, it was my first year of college. I met this guy in his early 20s who asked me seemingly randomly one day if I was into drugs. I told him no and yet to him that meant to explain to me which drugs I should be taking. He mentioned an over-the-counter cough medicine that would mess me up. He said to take 8 of the pills that came in the package. It took me awhile to do this, however, I was extremely bored one evening and thought what the hell? So I purchased a box of the cough medicine and took 8 of the 16 pills. Nothing happened for about an hour so I figured nothing would happen. I ended up going to work and almost immediately after I got there, the effects started to kick in. It was great. I didn’t care about anything. I felt like I was floating when I walked. It was amazing. I’d wished my first experience would’ve been bad because that was the moment I was hooked.

Cough medicine obviously isn’t physically addicting. It’s all mental. When you have a great experience like I did, you want to do it again. And I did. The first few times I would take the drug it was the same type of trip. It wasn’t really a trip, however. It was more like being drunk times ten without the dizzy feeling and nausea.

Somehow or another, I got into the habit of taking the drugs right after I got home in the mornings and laying down on my bed. It also became a habit to listen to my mp3 player while I was messed up. I went on awhile just taking 8 but I started to get bored thus I decided to increase the dose.

I remember my first real trip very clearly. I was laying there staring up at the ceiling, listening to my mp3 player. I remember the air conditioner kicking on and one of the vents in my bedroom was located directly above my bed. The air hit my face and it was beautiful. It was the best feeling I’d ever experiences up to that point. The next thing I know, my bed is floating upward and I’m moving through a bunch of robes. It was nuts. I’d taken 12 pills that day.

I went on taking 12 for quite sometime with the result being small trips like the one above. Finally, I decided it was time to increase my dose again and I took 16 one day. I don’t remember the visions I had that day, but I remember being on my back floating downward from the ceiling. Once I landed on my bed, my physical body awoke. I knew I’d just had an out of body experience.

I went on taking 16 pills for awhile and while every time wasn’t an out of body experience, I did have a few with that dose being taken. There was a time where I was floating in the corner of some random couples bedroom. The couple was sleeping and I was just staring around their room. Another time, I was floating in the corner in the backroom at work. Remember, I was overnights so the only associates I saw were those working during the day.

So I was having fun taking 16, but I wanted to see what would happen if I increased the dose. I was headed out of state to visit my brother and I had rented a hotel room a few years ago. I decided this would be the perfect place to increase my dose. That night, I took 32 pills. I remember that night like it was yesterday. The pills were taking forever to kick in. I was laying on the bed for the longest time listening to my mp3 player and nothing was happening. I decided to get up to use the restroom and it started.

I was staring at the sink drain and this spider kept coming in and out of the sink. I decided I should go lay down. Suddenly, these security cameras dropped down from the ceiling and were zooming in on me. Out of the corner of my eye I could see a television. It was weird because I could see myself on the television, at the same time I was laying in the bed. Everything the cameras were capturing appeared on the television. Suddenly, the ceiling became transparent. It was like I was the sidewalk in a large city. I could see people walking. I could here cars honking. It was nuts.

Suddenly, everything turned really dark and I couldn’t see the people walking anymore. Then, I see this hand slam down. At this point, it was like the ceiling was like a window. Then another hand slammed down. Suddenly several pairs of hands were banging against the glass. Then, I saw faces. It was pale white people screaming for help. I couldn’t hear them but I could see their lips. Then, I saw a fire behind them. They were burning. Then, the people disappeared and this disgusting creature appeared staring at me through the transparent ceiling. It was trying to get through but it couldn’t.

At this point, I was terrified. I decided to get up and go to the bathroom. I got into the bathroom, but it felt like something was missing. I remember thinking to myself, my soul is missing. It was so strange. I felt empty. It’s hard to explain. I walked back out of the bathroom and looked around the hotel room. I then looked over at the bed and I saw myself laying there. My body on the bed was asleep. It was my physical body on the bed and my soul standing near the bathroom. My physical body wasn’t aware, but my soul was. I was horrified and it was a fight to get to my body on the bed. I finally got to the side of the bed and it reached for my body on the bed. Something connected. The room started spinning rapidly and the next thing I know, this giant jolt of electricity hits my body. Suddenly, my body on the bed woke up. It was me. I was whole again. I looked around the room and everything seemed normal, however, I was still feeling pretty weird from the drug. I was so scared I didn’t know what to do. I just laid my head back down and stared up at the ceiling.

As you can imagine, that was the last time I took the drug. That was an out of body experience. There’s no doubt in my mind. I will never take that drug again. Out of body experiences are nothing to play with. It’s changed me.
