Ghost Train

Looking back, it was 1992. One more year until I was a senior in High School. It was a chilly October night in west Texas. Our Sanderson football team had just won their first game of the season. It was late and some friends and I were all staying the night with our friend Rachel, who lived on a ranch about 30 miles away from Sanderson. Now if you know anything about west Texas, then you know that it's very flat and wide open spaces. On the way home, we had to go through Dryden which the population there was about 10 to 15 people, now it's about population of about 4, very desolate. In Dryden we had to cross over railroad tracks.
As we were coming to the tracks, the rails started coming down and the lights blinking. We came to a stop in front of the rail and waited for the train. We sat and talked about the game and about boys and waited for the train to finish going by. After the train passed the rails came up and we started across the tracks. Now like I said it's wide open spaces and you can see at least two miles down the tracks both ways. Looking down the tracks, there was nothing, no train no lights no nothing and quite as a mouse. We all noticed this fact and when we got across the tracks, we got out of the car and looked both ways just to make sure we wern't going crazy. Sure enough, nothing. We got back into the car and headed to Rachels house, our minds were running wild trying to figure out what had just happened. That was years ago and I have never heard of it ever happening again to anyone else. Maybe it was just a freak accident and we just so happened to be at the right place at the right time to have experinced what we did.
