Death of an Old Friend

Story type: Angel
Location: Hospital
Source: Form Submission

When my daughter, now age 23, was 18 months old, she was hospitalized with double pneumonia. My fathers best friend was dying of cancer and was admitted to the hospital in the room next to my daughter. We all knew he had a very short time to live. After getting my daughter down for the night, I made myself a bed on the floor at the foot of her bed. At 2:00 in the morning, I was awakened by a bright light. I looked toward the light at the window and saw my Dad's friend standing in the window, all dressed in white, surrounded by a bright, iridescent, glowing cloud, and the most beautiful smile I had ever seen. As quickly as he appeared, he also vanished. Within seconds of his disappearance, his daughter entered our room. Her words, "Daddy just died", were no surprise to me. He made a visit to me on his way out. For years, I never shared this with anyone for fear of being considered strange. I have thought of it many, many times throughout the years and it has given my a wonderful appreciation of life and death. I am now, and have been for ten years, a hospice volunteer and have had the pleasure of sharing death with many people.
