My cousin Louis came down from Calif. and I met him at the airport in Anchorage. The year was l976. My parents ran a gas station in Tok,Ak. near the American border. We stayed several days in Anchorage and asked him if he would like to hitch-hike to tok, I figured it would only take one day. Plus, I knew mom and dad would've really liked to see him.

We started out early and got about a hundred miles out of town. All we had with us were sleeping bags and only about l0.00. We were only 17-18 years old at the time, not real smart. We only got one ride later that day and spent the night sleeping on the side of the road. The next day we didn't get a ride at all, no one would pick us up! We spent most of the three days that we were stranded walking trying to get to a lodge to make a phone call. and all that time we didn't have anything to eat. Needless to say, we were very hungery and we found this porkipine walking along the road and disscussing ways to make him our dinner, of course all the while he's looking over his shoulder at us, but we didn't have the heart to make him dinner.

After walking a few more miles we sat and rested, it was so bright and beatiful out. As I looked over at the trees I said jokingly to my cousin, wouldn't it be great if all those pine trees were apple trees? It started to rain, we walked a few feet to a bridge to find shelter under it. On our way down we found a paper sack and opened it under the bridge. There were two perfectly good apples in it! I told Lewis that I had prayed for food, he said he had also. I think God sent an his angel to deliver it, and no more than 10 minutes later we got a ride all the way to Tok. It's strange how there wasn't a cloud in the sky before it rained. It makes me wonder.
