The Hands of an Angel

On a Friday evening in the summer of 1979, I was following behind friends who were driving a huge Lincoln Town car. I had a subcompact Plymouth Champ and could barely see around the Lincoln. Suddenly, the Lincoln swerved out into the left lane passing a Ford mini-truck who was sitting dead-still in the middle of the road trying to turn left into his driveway. I slammed on my brakes, tried to steer right but hit his bumper going about 45 miles an hour! My car was totaled. Because seatbelt use was not a law then, I didn't have one on. But, as I slammed into the back of that truck, I felt powerful hands rest on my shoulders. They held me in my seat. I did not hit the steering wheel, fly through the windshield, or even move out of my seat!
The wife of the man whose truck I hit, came running out of her house and over to my car. She helped me out and couldn't believe I was okay.
Although I was terribly shaken, I was not hurt! I was sore for the next few days, but if it hadn't been for my guardian angel, I would surely have died.
