Not a Hair Was Singed, No Scent of Smoke

In 1987 I was working as a midwife in Houston, doing births at home for a number of people. One evening, while visiting one client, another paged, saying she thought she was in labor six weeks early. I jumped into my car, a 4-door sedan, and began the trip to her home, down a 6-lane highway. Although the speed limit was 55, there were traffic lights every so often. As I approached a yellow light and slowed, a young man from the other lane decided to run the yellow and, not seeing me, swapped into my lane and accelerated.
He rear-ended me at nearly 70 mph, causing a huge explosion. I remember glancing into the mirror just before the collision and being deafened by the explosion. I was shoved into oncoming traffic and struck a Camaro head-on. The entire interior of the car was orange and the back seat was in flames. I tried desperately to open the door and get out, but apparently the front end had buckled when I hit the Camaro and it was stuck. Fortunately, a fireman was on the road behind me and witnessed the whole thing. He called for help right away. Meanwhile, I was stuck in the car. I was terrified of being burned alive. Silently I prayed for escape. Suddenly, the door fell open, and I fell onto the pavement. I ran away from the car and at about 30 yards turned to see the front seat entirely engulfed in flames.
I didn't smell like smoke and didn't have one singed place or black mark on me anywhere, even though I had spent several minutes trying to get out of the car. I believe an angel opened my door just before the car was destroyed. I'm still not sure why, but I think I will know someday.
