My Guardian Angel

I get off of work at about 1 or 2 am, and on this par- ticular night, I had to take a co-worker and his brother home. It was raining really hard, where the rain becomes hypnotic, and no matter how fast you have your wipers going, it is not fast enough. Well, I had really bad breaks, the tread on my tires was shot, and my windshield wipers needed to be replaced.

I was driving down the only double-lane section of the high way in Kona, and was approaching a steep hill, and began to break. Well, seeing as how there was about three inches of water on the road, and I had no tread, I began to spiral down the highway. The whole time this is going on, I am see ing the guardrail coming at me...fast. (I must have been at about 60 mph at this time because I have always been told that breaking too hard when you have lost control makes the situation worse). As I saw this coming at me, I wondered how bad the damage would be--I wasn't wearing my seatbelt and my car isn't equipped with airbags--probably a good thing cause I am really short, and my seats don't lock into place, so on impact, I knew I would be thrown face-first into my steering wheel--and how bad the phone call to my parents would be. (I was 17 at the time.)

All of a sudden, mid-spiral, my car stopped. I was about 3 inches away from the guardrail. This is a miracle in more than one way. First, I had driven that road many times that late at night, and there was ALWAYS others on the road, and this particular night, there wasn't a soul in sight for miles! Two, although this story may not seem amazing to any one else, I know how fast my car was spinning, how quickly I was approching the guardrail, and I know without a doubt that for all intents and purposes, I SHOULD have hit it. So, I am eternally grateful to God and my guardian angel! :)
