On a winter day when I was about nine years old, I was out checking the cows with my father. One of the bulls had gotten into the wrong pasture and we needed to move him before he caused any unwanted pregnancies. He was an old bull who was usually very calm and compliant, but he refused to be "shooed" by the pickup. He kept going the wrong way.

In an often-used maneuver, my father had me get behind the bull and "shoo" him and keep him going while my father drove his pickup alongside to make sure he went in the right direction. The bull didn't take kindly to a child trying to tell him what to do and turned around and charged me. I stumbled backwards in fear and fell down. I began scrambling backwards and found myself trapped between the charging bull and a very thick mesquite bush. I was so scared that I couldn't even scream. I just sat there...frozen.

Suddenly the bull stumbled. He fell down completely and when he tried to get up, he couldn't. He could get his back end up into a standing position, but his head was trapped on the ground. I stayed frozen for a few seconds just watching him try to get his head off of the ground. It was like someone was holding his head down. My father started shouting for me to get up. I did and as soon as I was in the truck, the bull's head was released and he just stood up.

This was the first time I remember really believing in Angels.
