In 1990, while having a difficult pregnancy for my son, I was told that I would not get to deliver a live/healthy baby. It was a very difficult time and drifted off one night into a once again troubled sleep. I began dreaming at some point during the middle of the night. The dream was of me in the delivery room of the hospital giving birth to a stillborn baby boy. I begged and pleaded with the nurses and the doctor to let me hold my baby before they took him away from me. After struggling with the issue, I finally convinced the hospital staff to honor my wishes as the baby's mother. Upon handing the baby to me they told me it was indeed a boy. I looked to the face of this child wanting to remember every feature, every wrinkle, every hair on this sweet baby's face.Instead of seeing my baby's face when I turned to look, I saw the face of my uncle. Uncle Joe was smiling at me and telling me goodbye and not to worry, the baby would be alright. I remember feeling the expression of shock as the dream ended instead of mourning. The next day, my Uncle joe had sat down to eat his lunch at work. He leaned over to retrieve an item dropped from his lunchpail and never got back up. He crumpled over from a massive heart attack. True to his word though, he was leaving and my baby who was a boy was born happy, healthy and beautiful.
