Your Son Needs You

On a night in the month of February 1988, we had our first visitation . Russell had been out of the hospital for three weeks after a bout with HIB meninigitis. The post-hospital trama was intense with the child. He would cry for hours before falling to sleep. This particular night he had fallen asleep quickly and after many nights of little sleep I followed suit. During the night I was awakened by a firm shake and by my name being called and upon opening my eyes I was filled with the knowledge that my son needed me now. During the night my son had lost his dinner. It was drying and caked on his face, my son was smothering on his own food. Over the years I have had several more nightly visitations, a soft breeze in the room, a firm shake or my name being said, enough to wake me. Always filled with the knowledge that my son needed me.
