A Hug from Heaven

My mother passed away November 6th, 2001. She had a little hand held poker game that she took EVERYWHERE with her. When a poker hand won, (if the sound was on) it would play one of two songs - "You're in the Money" or "Happy Days Are Here Again". A couple days after she passed, I took a close friend (who I went to high school with) over to find her a "little something" of my mothers, since she was close to her too. We were standing there and I saw the poker machine still blinking "Win". I picked it up and told my friend - "See - Here's Mom's little poker machine, and it's still flashing 'win'". That was unusual, because if there is no activity on the machine, it goes blank until a button is pushed much like a screen saver. I put the machine down without touching any of the buttons. We walked into Mom's bedroom and were looking in her jewelry box, laughing and talking about Mom. We no sooner walked back out into the living room a couple minutes later, and the poker machine started playing "Happy Days Are Here Again"....I looked at my friend and said "She's here..." And my friend said "Yeah - and she's saying 'what are you girls getting into now' just like she used to....". I went over and pressed the mute button on the machine. Three days later when my brother and I were cleaning out the house, he tried to play the machine - and it was dead. I believe Mom had one last hug for me that first night and then she was gone.
