Driving Angel

Hi my experience happened back around 1995 when I was roughly 20 years old. I had traveled up north (from Sydney) for the weekend with a few friends and had gone up there straight from work. We did this every couple of weeks just to get away from the city. And I knew the area well as my great aunt lived up there also.

We had spent the Friday night at a local club. We had a great time at the club and my friends had gotten their own way back to where we were staying and myself and one other friend left the club around 5.00am when the sun was up. When we got there we found out that our friends had bought 2 guys home with them, so being a small cabin we didnt want to invade their privacy so we slept in the car for 2 or so hours and then I decided to drive further up the coast to a huge shopping centre I knew about.

It was going to be about a 1 and a half hour drive and as we were driving I said to my friend that I would turn the radio up loud and start singing so I would keep myself awake (we all know that this does not work!) and if I stopped singing she was to hit me or yell at me or do something to get my attention. So we were driving and the roads were kinda narrow (one lane each way) and after a while I could feel myself falling asleep but for some reason it didnt click that I was driving and that I shouldnt be falling asleep. I hadnt felt tired before this.

Next thing I knew was jolted awake and I looked up and we were heading towards a car on the other side of the road and I quickly grabbed the wheel and turned it and we just narrowly and I mean narrowly missed the other car. My heart was pounding and I thanked god in my head and then I looked over to my friend and I said why the didnt you notice that I was asleep?and she simply said I dont know. It was my fault that I had fallen asleep but if I was her I would have said something if I had noticed the driver of the car snoozing!

Anyways so after that I was wide awake and we went and did some shopping and on the way back after an hour or so I was beginning to get tired again. Now when I look back I should have stopped the car but for some reason I didnt. I have no idea why but I can remember at the time that I wasnt worried about falling asleep. I just felt calm. And the road that leads to where we were staying ran alongside a huge lake and there were, and still isnt, any fences or boundaries from stopping you from careering straight into the water if your car unfortunately left the road.

The road was approximately 10-15 metres from the start of the sand and sort of wound itself around the lake so there are lots of tight turns and on the other side of the road there is a railway track and also houses looking over the lake. So back to the story. From the time I felt myself starting to fall asleep all I can remember is drifting in and out of consciousness and it didnt register that I was even driving.

After about 25 mins I woke up when we started coming into the town. I cannot remember coming past the lake at all. The road is narrow and I could have so easily run off it when I had fallen asleep but for some reason and I believe it was my guardian angel I did not crash into anything. There was no way I was physically driving that car. I dont know how I would have looked to other drivers being asleep at the wheel and all. I asked my friend if she had noticed if I had fallen asleep or not and she said she didnt notice.

I have no idea and still wonder today who was watching out for me and now if I feel tired coming home late at night I will let someone else drive. I got away with is once and dont wish to try my luck again. One thing to note is that my great aunt lived just near the lake and I was very very close to her so it could have been her looking out for me, I am not sure. Whoever it was I was very grateful to them. No doubt that they saved my life that morning and that of my friend. Thank you for reading my story. Any comments you can email me at kazz08@hotmail.com.
