The Voice that Saved My Life in La Puente, CA

It was Christmas Eve, 1994. I was driving alone back to my parents' home from Christmas shopping. My car at the time was a 1989 Toyota Tercel, a small two door economy car. I was stopped at a red light, first in line, and in the outer of two left turn lanes, on a street called "Hurley St.." You can only make a right or left at Hurley on to Valley Blvd.

It was about four o'clock in the afternoon and a beautiful, clear day. I recall looking to my left at the car next to me. I saw a young couple sitting in their car, waiting for the light. I was thinking about how great it was to finally spend the first Christmas with my family, since 1991. I had just got home a few months before from serving four years in the Army. I had spent my last two years serving in Germany, without coming back to California for Christmas.

I wasn't paying attention to until the light turned green.

I sped into the intersection and was halfway through when I heard an audible and loud voice yell, "Stop!" come from the backseat area of my car. I slammed on the brakes. That split second, a large early 70's Monte Carlo sedan zoomed through the intersection headed East, my direction of travel too. This guy was going about 60 to 70 miles per hour. He most likely would've killed me or maimed me for life. It would take about 4-5 Tercels to match the weight of his "boat." He didn't even look.

I felt sick about almost being hit and stunned and bewildered after hearing the voice. I looked to my left and the couple was stopped too and staring at me. Both looked scared.

I took off after the guy and finally caught up to him. He was weaving all over the road and made a sharp left turn into the "Happy Homes" neighborhood - not a nice one either.

I got home and told my parents what happened. They were shocked. My dad, who is Mormon, said it was the Holy Ghost. I think that it was an angel. I was kind of freaked out, not by the "almost car accident", but by the voice. I have never heard anything like it. I listen to my gut feelings, but this was a female voice. I'm very thankful now.
