Until I read articles and heard stories about "Near Death Experience" did I only focus my attention on what happened to me in 1981; I was 39 years old then.

I am an Architect, married to NENITA, a Medical Technologist by degree and a father of 2 boys and 1 girl. The 2 boys, Jonas and Glenn. were born in 1972 and 1974. The youngest, Theresa, was born in 1981. My wife, of 30 years now, has devoted her life pretty much with the children as they were growing up and absorbed the life of a Homemaker. Knowing that the children are secured with their Mother, I would usually stay out having fun with the co-workers.

Being in the prime of your life, drinking and a bit of "Lying" were part of the fun. It was almost a Standard Operating Procedure in the Architectural Firm that I was working for that before closing the day, wine seemed to be the answer to a long day of work. This almost happened every afternoon and would usually last until everyone was bombed but on his/her feet.

In one of these playful ocassions, a common urge to relieve my bladder got me up to go to the Boys' Room. I must admit that by this time (around 9 pm, after consuming a few glasses of wine, you can feel a little lightness in your walking. I went in front of the urinal and started to let go of my fluids. As this was going on, I felt darkness was overwhelming me and turning into pitch black. Then I felt sinking in the ground and my "spirit, soul or whatever you want to call it" was separating from my body. After that separation, I was then sucked into a dark tunnel so fast that there were beings along both sides of the path appearing unrecognizably. The travel was long enough to see a dot of light (something similar to a light when you turn off the TV set) turning bigger and brighter. I cannot describe the fullness of the light but the feeling was so nice, calm, peaceful......... Being taken away came to my senses as this light was getting brighter and brighter. Nearing got me to say "God, please not yet. My children are still young and they still need me"; literally. After saying these words, I was pulled back away from that light and slowly entering back into my body.

I stood by the urinal as this was happening and never lost conciousness. Thinking that this event was just an affect of a special kind of wine, too much to drink or maybe not enough solid meals before drinking, etc.- you know! The evening went on for a few more hours binging as if nothing happened.

A few weeks later, I saw a documentary about NEAR DEATH EXPERIENCES on TV and guess what others have to say about their experiences- the same exact thing! Only then did I take this event in my life seriously. I take it as a GIFT from the Almighty and sometimes a REMINDER that we are also important not only to ourselves but also to others.
