Children Know Things We Don't

Almost a year ago a very good friend of the family (Amir) committed suicide, he was 19 years old. This was a very difficult time for everyone and still is. 

My grandson Darrian, not yet two was very close to Amir, they would play together. Watching one time when Darrian and Amir were washing dishes (Darrian would sit on the counter and play with the bubbles.) When I Left the room to answer the phone I returned to find the dishes done and Darrian in the sink clothes and all playing with the bubbles. It was very heart warming to watch Amir, a young man with such a caring heart towards a little child, as Amir was 6'5''. 

Time has passed and the pain is easier but the memories of Amir still linger, the good and the bad. Sometimes I just expect Amir to come walking through the door but it doesn't happen. Darrian sees Amir in the kitchen of my home and he talks to him. 

The first time this happened the lights were off and Darrian stood in the doorway hands out stretch calling Amir, Amir and I thought he was saying come here. I did not go into the kitchen I froze in my chair and a warmth filled my entire body from head to toe. 

Darrian was jabbering up a storm and the only words that were clear to me were "Amir, Amir, I wuv you." The second time was very similar. Darrian was calling Amir's name with his little hands out stretched. I became scared and started to shake I went into the kitchen very quickly and the entire feeling totally dissolved. 

Darrian sat down in the kitchen doorway, he became very tired and fell asleep within minutes of this happening. I told his mom and she did not believe me until the next time. 

In the future I will try to control my emotions it would be wonderful to talk to Amir and find out how it is on the other side.
