I was in the middle of my first Dance Marathon just last week. The University of Florida was raising money, and I was dancing for 32 hours straight. We had started at 10am on Sat and would finish at 6PM on Sun. It was the period between 2am and 5am that was most difficult for me. I had never before experience such violent muscle spasms of exhaustion. I massaged my feet individually (we couldn't sit the whole time) and tried to sleep leaning against a table. I knew there were times in this period that my consciousness was not in my body because I could no longer feel the pain and sleeping for 30 seconds felt like an entire night. Waiting in line for the showers was the worst. I was so uncomfortable in the hot steamy room with all the hot showers and hairdryers that I started hyperventilating. I couldn't even control keeping hold of my towel. I was so afraid of going into seizures. Taking a shower ended all of that. 

When talking to my parents the next evening, my father asked me what I was doing between 2 and 5 in the morning. I told him that was my most difficult time. He told me that at that same time was when he could not sleep at all, no matter how hard he tried. My mother, pick up the phone at that moment and said that she couldn't sleep at that time either, and finally was able to drift off at around the same time I was taking a shower. She said she was doing laundry at that time---that was the feeling I had! The feeling of being in a dryer. What makes all of this even more phenomenal is the fact that it was the night that none of us were together-- my father was in Naples, FL; my mom in Ft. Myers, Fl and I was in Gainesville, FL.
