Stay Away from the Woods

It was the summer of 1993, and my best friend, Becky, came to visit her old home town since moving to California. She was staying with some family friends of hers whom I did not know until that summer. They lived a little ways out of town near a wooded area, and had several pets which included two dogs. They also own an old wooden ouija board which they regarded very sacredly. I am not talking about a Parker Brother's game here, but a real board which held a mystique about it. These people do not worship it or anything, but they truly respect it and have certain rituals that they carry out before using it. They have supposedly had many experiences with it and have come to rely on it as a means of getting information. If they lose things around the house, then sometimes the spirits in the board will tell them where it can be found, and it is always there. I, only being about seventeen, at the time was intrigued to see this for my self. (Now, remember, I only knew these people one day when this happened, and they knew nothing about me and my private life!)

My friends and I (including the 14 year old daughter of the people and their 2 dogs) went walking down into the woods with the dogs one afternoon. As we approached the creek, the dogs started going crazy with fear. They kept pulling on their leashes insistently and whining. It was daylight, and everything seemed empty and quiet around us, but those dogs were barking and pulling really hard as if to pull us to the house.

After a while, we could not get the dogs to calm down so all four of us walked back to the house. We told the girl's mom about what happened and after dinner that night, her mom got the ouija board out. Mary, the daughter and her mom, who seem to get the board to work the best started spinning the oracle.

After a while it started to jerk across the board and spell out HELLO. The spirit in the board said that it's name was Caleb and that he lived during the 1800's. He said that he was 23 years old and had died in 1859. He told us that he was murdered in some woods violently. When we asked how it said "AXE!" Then we told it about the experience in the woods. He would not tell us if he was related to this incident, but he told us to stay away from the woods for a few days because there was something evil there. He repeated it over and over spelling evil and stay out of the woods really fast. He said that he could not explain it, but keep away and stay in the house. After a while, Mary said to the spirit sarcastically if it would be all right for us to leave the house just to get some ice cream. The oracle just flew off the board like he was angry.

It was frightening, but a little doubt in me wondered if they were only putting on an act for me. After a while, they got in contact with another spirit, and I decided to ask some questions. This was the summer before my Senior year and I had started to look into colleges. I was dating a guy named B.F. and we were really close. My dream which I never thought would really happen was to go to Saint Louis University. I thought I would never get there because it cost so much money. I asked the board what college I would go to, and it said

>SLU

I asked how would I ever get the money it said

>GRANT

OK, good guesses!

I asked if me and my boyfriend would get married

>NO!

No?? What did that mean. of course we would. We were really close. We rarely even fought. I was certain we would be together So I asked if we would be friends

>NO!

I asked who he would marry

>Joy U

I thought about it We didn't know any Joy's or Joyce. Oh well, this thing must be messed up anyway. I asked it if I would meet anyone new

>YES

Well, who am I going to marry?

>J M S

Yeah right! I left that night and told my boyfriend and he laughed at me so hard. I didn't think of it until lately when I thought it all out and I found the blue paper that we wrote out all the ouija board's answers to my questions on.

I did get accepted into SLU but did not have enough money to attend. Two weeks before college started the phone rang and the college awarded me a nice big grant so I could attend since my dad's job laid him off and we were short of money. My boyfriend cheated on me four months after the incident with the ouija board. A year ago he tried to get back together with me but I did not because I did not trust him and I had a new boyfriend to whom I was getting engaged to. B.F. and I could never be friends after he cheated on me and we fought something terrible if we saw each other. Two weeks after tryng to break me and my new boyfriend up, he got a girl from our old high school class pregnant and married her. Her initials were J. U. Pretty close and weird! And the man that I am going to marry in nine months his name is S.M. J. So JMS either was his name backwards or an abbreviation to his last name.

I had told my mom after the ouija experience all the board said. She told me that I may not want to know too much about my future. In a way it proved to me that the board was right, but I think in the future now that I know my experience that I will let fate run the rest of my life even though a part of me is really curious to go back to that house and ask the board about other things. I really believe that some weird things can happen, but maybe it is best not to mess with it too much.

Hope this really intrigued you! Keep Believing and looking out for clues of spirits around us because they are there!
