Divine Intervention

Although I have been in a few life-threatening situations (and thankfully have survived them all with little or no permanent marks to remind me), the experience I wanted to share with you is not one of those. In fact, when I think about it, it almost sounds too petty to mention.

Then again, I think it conveys a message of how Divine Intervention can point you in one direction and then it's up to you to complete the journey. If we fail, then we have nobody to blame but ourselves.

About two years ago, I was in a dead-end job and I desperately wanted to get out. Out of nowhere, an opportunity came along for me to interview with an international pharmaceutical company. I thought, "Great! I have some sales experience and maybe I can even request a transfer to Miami after a year or two (I've always wanted to move to Miami). Anyway, the interview was scheduled to take place in New Jersey by Newark airport and the person who was to conduct the interview gave me directions on how to get there from my house (which is about an hour and a half away). I forgot to mention earlier that I'm half-deaf in my right ear and can't hear well out of it at all. The interview was set for the morning and of course, I got lost. Then I started to think that maybe I had written down the wrong Hotel name (the interview was to be conducted at the hotel the interviewer was staying at) and turned back to a hotel I had passed in the opposite direction. I looked at the time and realized that I was not going to make it and so I got very angry at myself and started praying to God to please help find the right place.

Out of nowhere, I distinctly heard a voice say to me "It's the hotel in the other direction" (which is where I was going originally). The only thing was (which I realized moments later) that I had heard the voice in my right ear, and it was clear as a bell. As it turned out, I took the advise and got to the interview just a few minutes late and wound up getting the job.

A year later I had to leave due to difficulties I brought on myself and that's where the moral comes in. I was set on the path by Divine Intervention and I strayed, but I have only myself to blame for that.
