This is not a personal experience, but a series of events that happened to some close friends of ours, Paul and Sally. You may not find this story particularly scary, but it definitely made the hair on the back of my neck stand up.

Paul has lived in his house for about seven or eight years, and has been married to Sally for about three years. Odd things have happened in the house, but it didn"t really start until Sally moved in.

Things would regularly go missing only to turn up at a later date in another part of the house. They would get up in the morning and come downs stairs and find all the pictures hanging crookedly on the walls. There is also an old clock above the fire place that has not worked for years that chimed by itself. They affectionately named the ghost Harry.

They started to get used to "Harry" and his antics and nothing else really happened until the day Paul went into the kitchen to do some washing up.

He had gone into the kitchen with a lit cigarette and placed it in an ashtray on the windowsill, the window was closed. He filled the sink bowl up with hot water and began to wash up. As he looked up and out of the window Paul realised that the cigarette had vanished. Paul looked everywhere for it, thinking that it may have fallen somewhere and was burning. He searched for ages and could not find it, there was not even any smoke, nothing. Out of frustration Paul said " For Gods sake Harry if you want to smoke, then buy your own cigarettes!" From that day to this Harry has bothered them no more.

Now this didn"t freak me out until I heard the next part of the story.

My boyfriend Michael and I were round at Paul and Sally"s one night and they were telling us about Harry for the first time. We all laughed about it and I asked again if nothing else had ever happened. Paul answered " no, but Harrys" left his mark".

About a year ago Sally decided that she wanted a proper fire place built in the lounge room to replace the gas fire that was already there. They built the fire place surround and and around the edges of the new gas fire they fitted three pieces of pink marble. After completing the job they sat back and admired thier work. It was quite obvious that Harry liked it too, for there in the veins of the marble is clearly written the name "Harry".
