Haunted Dorm

I am taking your word on this story. I hope after responding to it that it was true. When I was 19, I lived with my parents in a house that they had recently moved into in the N.C. countryside. I had broken my back and decided to move in with them until I was physically able to get around better. While there, I experienced many a strange phenomenon. The following story relates to these occurences.
It all started one night while I was asleep. I awoke to the horror of being strangled. I tried to move and was very unsuccessful. I then tried to scream to my parents, who were on the other side of the house. Nothing came out of my mouth. I thought I was going to die. All of a sudden, an apparition appeared and it ended. I jumped out of my bed and ran into the living room screaming. I'm sure that you can imagine me doing this after recently having back surgery and in a back brace. Of course, my parents didn't believe me.
They kept ridiculing me for the next few weeks. I started to wonder if I was losing my mind or something. It occurred fairly frequently for about a month. Always the same. Sometimes I awoke with the cover being pulled around my neck and I still couldn't move while being choked. Sometimes I just saw eyes instead of a figure.
Soon afterwards, I started seeing and hearing things in my room late at night and during the daylight occasionally. One of the things that I heard while awake was a thud on the kitchen floor, like my previously deceased Himalayan cat used to make when he would jump off of the deep freezer onto the tiled kitchen floor. We always kept his food up there so the dog couldn't eat it. There were a few times when I would be laying in bed reading late at night when I would hear this noise and then feel something jump up on the bed a few moments later. I could actually see something walk across my bed. I freaked. I started sleeping on the couch in the living room. It worked for a few days.
It all started up again though. My mom started hearing that same thudding sound at night. Then late one evening when my dad was at work she was woken by something jumping up on the bed. She told me that it then starting walking towards her and something in the shape of a dog appeared. She said that it had red glowing eyes. She screamed and I went in her bedroom to see what was going on. I didn't notice anything unusual, but she believed me after that. My dad started ragging on both of us. He said that we were crazy. My mother hung a cross over my bed that had been blessed when she was a child in Catholic school. I didn't experience anything for about two weeks.
Near the end of this time, my father finally experienced the smothering occurence. I have never seen my dad scared before that, but he was very frightened. He usually would have shrugged something lke this off as a dream, but not this time. He went and bought several crosses for the house. It seemed to be taken care of, when I experienced the suffocation again. I jumped out of the bed terrified and turned the light on. The cross was lying on the floor, face down. It wasn't but two days after this happened and I was moving out.
I stayed with my best friend across the street until I could find an apartment. It never happened to me again, but the first night I was over there, the same thing happened to my best friend. He never told me about it until two or three weeks later when we had gotten extremely drunk and were talking, when he suddenly told me what had happened. I was shocked. I had never even told him about the strange happenings at my parents house. He never would have told me if he hadn't been drunk. He couldn't explain it. I then told him about what had been happening at my parents house. He told me that I had to find an apartment by the end of the week. He was scared to death. He thouught it had followed me to his house. I guess that he believed in that sort of stuff.
Ever since then I haven't experienced any of these things again, nor do I wish to. My parents haven't either, nor had my friend. I think that it was all in our imagination sometimes, but thinking back on what happened, I know that it was real. I did some research about the area and I discovered that the area where my parents home had been built was a battlefield of the Civil War. That is the only explanation that I can come up with. The other occurences might have been our previous pets. Both our cat and our dog had died within the last two months in the house.
The reason that I responded to your story is because of the somthering
thing about the monks when they were in bed. It is very similar to what I
had experienced. I have heard of things like this on occasion since these
things occured. It makes me feel a little better to know that I wasn't the
only one, know what I mean.
