My boyfriend is living in the upper half of an old two story house, which he rents from a man who owns the house and lives in the lower half. The man who owns the house has always sort of given me the creeps, though he seems nice on the surface.

A friend of my grandmother's asked my boyfriend once where he lived, and when he specified the house, she said an old lady had lived in the upper half, which had been a mother-in-law suite (her son lived in the lower half), and she passed away up there in her sleep a few years ago.

I spend the night there with my boyfriend on weekends, and have always had trouble sleeping, though it is very comfortable. I have often had a strange feeling while lying there as well, almost as if we were being watched. I even began to suspect that my boyfriend's "creepy" landlord had set up cameras in there or something. I know it sounds paranoid, but that's how strongly I felt I was being watched. There have been strange occurrences up there at night, and I had always suspected the landlord. I never really thought it could actually be a haunting until recently- though I admit I'm still skeptical.

Anyway, the most recent occurrences have happened at times when the landlord was out of town and nobody else was in the house. Things usually happen late at night, like the time we stayed up to watch a movie. It was about 1 a.m. when the movie was over, and I got up to rewind the tape. After I hit rewind, there was still sound coming from the speakers, like a faint conversation muffled by static. I thought maybe the TV. was somehow interfering, but when a tape is rewinding, the screen remains blue, it doesn't switch to any channels. I stopped the tape and shut off both the TV. and VCR, but there was still sound coming from the speakers.

My boyfriend thought it could possibly be the stereo, so he got up and shut it off, but the sounds continued until we finally decided to unplug the speakers!

Then, just last week, I was lying there, awake as usual, and I could hear someone breathing deeply through their nose from across the room. I rolled over and woke my boyfriend, who sat up to listen. I asked if it could be his landlord sleeping, but he said the landlord was out of town. As we listened, the breathing seemed to get closer, as if whoever it was could be right there in the room with us, then it suddenly stopped. My boyfriend said he has heard the breathing several times, but never knew where it came from.

We settled back down, but were both still awake. About half an hour later, the breathing started again, this time much more clearly, and from the foot of the bed. By the way, if you're wondering, my boyfriend has no pets, and neither does the guy downstairs. Again, it got louder, then stopped. We were so creeped out, we turned on the lights and stayed up the rest of the night!

Neither of us can explain what happened, but I know as I go there this weekend, we're sure to encounter some more odd sounds. I'll submit more if we do...
