This is a story to prove that ghosts have a sense of humor too. I work the night shift at a small community hospital that was built in 1950. Rumors abounded that a woman died in childbirth shortly after the hospital was built and her presence was felt by a few of the other nurses that had worked there for a long time. I had never experienced anything like that before, until this night.
I was working in Labor and Delivery and was taking care of a mom and baby while the new dad slept in the other bed in the room. The Lab person had come in to draw her blood at 5:30am and we had decided to do everything at once and not awaken them more often than necessary. The lab person turned on a low light to look for a vein while I readied the blood pressure cuff and thermometer. Suddenly, I heard what sounded like "peeing" noises coming from the bathroom. I turned around, expecting to find the new dad out of bed and probably in the bathroom but discovered him fast asleep in the bed. The lab person and I exchanged quick glances and I decided to find out who had decided to take a wrong turn and use their bathroom. Meanwhile, the "noises" continued. My hand grabbed the doorknob and I quickly opened up the door to find the "noises" had stopped, but noticed ripples in the toilet water and the tissue paper that hung from the roll was moving gently in a breeze not ever present in the bathrooms. I turned back to look at the lab person, who by now was looking at me with wide eyes and saying, "I'm sure glad someone else heard that!". The patient was now sitting straight up in bed and asked us who was using her bathroom. I managed to get it together and mention something lame like "It's an old hospital and sometimes the plumbing does weird things".
No need to freak out the family with ghost stories!!!
