Little Dog Spooked
From: Betty Meischen (bj88wc@phoenix.net) Story type: Ghost Location: My home Source: Form Submission
Shortly after my mother died, some strange things happened in my home. We had got this little white shaggy mutt from the dog pound about a year earlier. She really hadn't become too friendly yet, but one day I was washing dishes, and she came running toward me, sitting right next to me very close. She was staring at something and she growled at it. She followed it around the room with her eyes. I told her she was being a silly dog and went over to the rocking chair to sit down. The dog jumped into my lap, the first time she had done that since we got her. I put her down on the floor and she jumped right back, this time shaking and trying to get as close to me as she could. I put her down and she did it a third time. I got up and went back to washing dishes. Suddenly the dog began running in a circle like someone was chasing her. Finally, she ran into the bedroom, jumped onto the bed and stuck her head under the pillow.
The "seeing things" began to happen quite regularly after that. Our houseguests witnessed Candy (the dog) growl at the thin air and watch as though someone were moving about in the room. They started calling her "pycho mutt." One night, my daughter was sleeping upstairs. She came running to my bed in the middle of the night, and crawled into bed with me frightened to death. She said that Candy had become frightened of something in the dark and had literally lain down on top of her head, shaking all over. Becky turned on the light, and she observed Candy follow with her eyes something as it circled Becky's bed. Becky said she felt a rush of cold air around her and that's when she ran to my room. She would not go back up to her room for several days.
Candy has also got frightened upon occasions and jumped on my head at night, too. It has been quite awhile since she has seen a "ghost" or since anyone else has so maybe whoever was here (my mother?--I had begged her to try to find a way to show me if there was a life after death) has now moved on and is no longer "haunting" our home.
We had an exchange student that same year who said she woke up in the middle of the night, turned on her lamp and saw a pretty woman with dark hair in a long white dress staring at her. She said the lady looked at her oddly then turned and walked off, disappearing into thin air. (My mother had dark hair and was really pretty, just the way the girl described her).
Becky's boyfriend said that once he came back to our house to get something that he had forgotten. He said he saw a lady (like the one Linda, the exchange student had seen) standing at the end of the hall. She turned and walked into our bedroom. He followed but when he turned the corner, no one was there.
One last thing, shortly after my mother's death, I took
out a pair of her socks. They were laying on the bathroom
floor and Candy started barking at them. Becky went in the
bathroom, picked up one of the socks and tossed it toward
the dog. Candy did a back flip and ran so hard we almost
died laughing it scared her so bad.
