Man on the Stairs
From: Sandy [tweet@ici.net] Story type: ghost Location: Stoughton Ma.
My husband and I, "my fiance at the time", needed to buy a house to live in after we married ,but he cared for his family and wanted to move them out of the city before we married. So we all pitched in and bought the house in Stoughton, Ma. in November,1969. There was my husbands grandmother, his mother, step-father,brother,sister,my husband, myself and the family dog. Shortly after we moved in my husband climbed the stairs to the bed rooms when he let out a holler and came rushing down. He was white as a sheet and said their was a man at the top of the stairs. I went to check, but saw nothing, but could tell by the look on my husbands face that he did. I spoke to a neighbor shortly after and mentioned this to him. He thought it was strange and said that a teenage boy from the former family had died in a car acident.
Other strange things happened in this house too. This is something I felt as well as my brother-in-law at different times, but in the same room. We felt that someone was holding our legs down while in bed, but when we opened our eyes no one was there.
The family dog that made the move from the city with us and was used to climbing lots of stairs would never climb these stairs to the bed rooms. One night we forgot to let him out that last run and he really had to go. He attempted to climb the stairs to get us. I awoke and heard him get half way up when he turned quickly and tried to run down and fell. It was as if something had scared him. He never attempted it again.
We were having a family get together and were talking about these strange things when I mentioned I had a Ouija Board so my mother-in-law, two aunts and I thought we'd take it out. We went up stairs in bed room that overlooked the hall stairs where my husband had seen the man. It seemed to work best with just my aunt Joyce and myself so we continued. We seemed to have contacted a spirit and were trying to locate him. The Ouija Board spelled out h-a-l-l. This hall at the top of the stairs has a cubby hole that has a curtain in front of it. There are no windows or drafts here, but all of a sudden the curtain started to move. A little at first, then it was as if a gust of wind blew it way up. We all screamed and dropped the Ouija Board as my husband started to laugh in the hall. He had pulled the curtain. We all had a good laugh and called it a day with the Ouija Board forgeting that we may have just located a ghost in the hall and that my husband merrily interupted us.
One final thing that happened in that house was the missing gifts. We were planning a family Christmas Party. My mother-in-law and I bought some small gifts for Santa to give out to the kids at the party, but when we went to the closet to get them for wrapping they were gone. We had no one to suspect of stealing and they never turned up.
As these things happened we just shrugged them off. They all seemed to
have happpened in the first three years of
living there, then stopped. My family still lives there, but even with
the fact that two family members that lived there have
died,"my husbands grandmother and step-father", there has been no more
trouble or hauntings sence then. But
incidently, the two dogs that live there now don't go up those stairs.
The cat does though.
