Old House

This is a story about a little prankster ghost I lived with for a short time. My husband and I rented an old house (1940's) from an aquaintance of mine. We lived there for less than a year, but while we were there, 3 very specific, unexplainable things happend. The first happened one night as I was sitting on the couch watching the TV. My husband was in the dining room reading the newspaper and he called me to him to show me something. I sat with him for a few minutes then returned to the couch. The cushion I had been sitting on was wet! There was a water pattern that resembled if someone had thrown a glass of water on it, and it ran down the sides and saturated the couch beneath the cushion. We had no pets, I had not been drinking, there was no roof leak. It was quite a mystery.

Another time, I lost my checkbook. It was gone for 3 days. I tore apart the house and couldn't find it. My husband didn't have it. I was frantic thinking about how I was going to figure out our bank account. On the third day I came home from work. We had a rocking recliner and it was turned to face the door. There was a throw pillow placed very neatly right in the middle of the seat, and underneath it was my checkbook. My husband swore he didn't do it as he knew how upset I was about losing it.

The last situation was when we were mysteriously locked out of the only bathroom in the house. The lock was old fashioned and not able to be "accidentally" triggered. I was pregnant with my first child and being locked out of the only bathroom in the house was a rather emergent situation! We struggled with the door until my husband finally went outside and broke in through the window. By the time he made it there, the door was no longer locked. We were dumbfounded.

I believe these were the works of a prankster ghost in the house. Although it never made itself visually evident to use, it did seem to enjoy playing tricks on us. I was never frightened there, but at times I wish I had been able to spend a little more time finding out the history of the house and to watch for anymore little tricks!
