When my mother was growing up, she lived in a house that was haunted. My grandmother would rearrange the furniture in the living room and in a few days it would be rearranged. She always assumed it was her husband doing it. Then one night, one of her stepsons went into hysterics and swore that there was someone in the room with him. Sure enough, if you listened, she said you could hear the footsteps. Then one night, she was in bed with her husband and woke up. Leaning against the doorway of her bedroom was a man smoking a cigarette. She woke her husband up and he saw it too. He picked up a hammer that was next to the bed and lunged at the figure. As he reached him, he disappeared. They soon moved from that house.
