This is a true story- it happened exactly as it is told here. I was a junior in college. My family had been cleaning out some old stuff from the attic in preparation to move. In a box my dad found an old felt fedora that had been his father"s.His father had died when I was a newborn. I asked if I could have it-those type hats were all the fashion rage at the time.I took it to my room and hung it from one of the posters at the foot of my bed-I had a four-poster bed at the time.My bed was at the far side of the room, against a wall.

That night, I went to be as usual- the hat hanging on the bed post at the bottom left of my bed. I was asleep, facing the wall. I remember waking up, feeling almost drugged. It was very dark-I have no idea what time it was. I knew immediately that I was not alone.I rolled over and right in front of my face was a face. I was terrified and could not speak or scream-the face (without a body) was sort of floating and I could see through it. I couldn"t tell its gender-its mouth was open as if trying to speak. I was freaked out! I sat up, and my line of vision fell on the felt fedora at the end of my bed. it was spinning so fast that is was a blur. I started to scream. My dad ran from my parents room across the hall into my room. He saw the spinnning hat-the face had vanished. He reached up to stop the hat. I stopped screaming. I told him what had happened. He said I was dreaming and the hat was spinning from the air flow from tne furnace vent at the foot of the bed. I thought that made sense, but after he left to go back to bed,I turned on the light. It seemed weird that such a strong air flow would come out of the vent, I got out of bed to check it out-the vent was completely closed.

I believe that the face was associated with the hat in some way. I took the hat and threw it in a dumpster so that the spirit or whatever it had been couldn"t find me.
